The Anti-Corruption Commission arraigned the former Acting Director General
of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS), Kashope Wellington, and the
former Accountant of the SLBS, Madonna Druscilla Cole, on a charge of
misappropriation of public revenue contrary to section 12(1) of the
Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended. It is alleged that the Accused persons
misappropriated the sum of US$ 22,200 (Twenty Two Thousand Two Hundred
United States Dollars) paid by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to
the SLBS for the use of the Leicester Peak facility. Both Accused pleaded
not guilty before Honourable Mr. Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke. The case was
adjourned to the 11th of December 2008.
The Chief Clerk at the Immigration Department, Alhaji Alie Badara Seisay,
was also arraigned before Honourable Mr. Justice Nicholas Brown-Marke on two
counts of soliciting and accepting an advantage contrary to section 8 (1)(a)
of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended. The Commission alleged that the
Accused solicited and accepted money for the preparation of a passport. The
Accused pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned to the 3rd of December
2008.
